Manchester Labour Euro MP, Arlene McCarthy is to be quizzed by students at Our Lady's High School (Blackley) tomorrow (Thursday 19th November).
Arlene said: "An important part of my job as a Euro MP is meeting with young people and listening to their views on Europe. "
"As a members of the European Union young people have the right to study, work and travel anywhere in the EU to look forward to. I want to make sure they know about these opportunities from an early age."
Arlene added: "Many of the laws we are working on in Europe are particularly relevant to young people, such as laws to stop mobile phone companies charging rip off prices and new laws to ban the trade in seal fur and cat and dog fur. Young people are also very interested in climate change."
"Only this week the results of our crackdown on rogue mobile phone ringtone companies were published. Young people were being conned by these website into downloading ringtones they believed were free. Over half (51%) of the sites checked were directing their marketing at children, many using cartoons and children's programmes in their advertising, and rarely seeking parents' consent. We sent a strong message to the mobile ringtone industry - we are determined to protect our young people from being ripped off." |
